If you view this as a guide book to study for the SSGB exam, then it's a very good value. With some supplementing it can also serve as a course textbook IF the instructor has good content knowledge.GOODPrice. For $21 paperback "india only" to $60 hardback (US version) you get a comprehensive guidebook to the SSGB exam. This is a steal.All Green Belt content is covered in the text.Chapters tie back to specific sections in the ASQ Body of Knowledge.Explanations are reasonably clear.NOT SO GOOD:Green Belt content is covered in 420 pages and is VERY condensed.There are sample problems in the text, but they’re sketchy at times.No end of chapter problems, so there's nothing to practice with / teach from.Typos / errors -- BUT if you can't get past them then you're NOT ready to sit for the GB exam. Typos / errors seem to be the plague of the industry (ALL books) as more and more editing is pushed offshore."Handbook" might be a bit of a stretch since a lot of content is more overview than explanation, but a true handbook would be 2000 pages and cost $200. For what this is, it's a very good value and you can buy other books to supplement where you're weak.
My rating is for the kindle version.don't get the kindle version. the charts/tables/graphics are sliced up to the point of uselessness. yes, it's easier to take around and try to read on the fly, but overall the viewing of the charts/tables makes many chapters very hard to comprehend.I ended up buying a hard copy as well. Also, if taking the exam, you can bring in a hard copy, but not a kindle- so kindle version doesn't work for 'open book'
This book's writing style is not easy to read, and more disturbingly, there are a number of obvious typos in the solutions. In the early chapters one can still derive value from the content - but once the book gets into more advanced concepts, it becomes increasingly difficult to interpret. I was shocked that an association dedicated to quality could produce a book with so many obvious defects.
Badly organized, badly written, poor examples, and an ultimately frustrating book that fails to relate the details to the big concepts. Many omissions from the index and definition appendix. Sections frequently repeat previous chapters verbatim, adding unnecessary bulk to the book and failing to add clarity with a new angle on the same topic. Furthermore, as a reference information is not easy to locate, showing a poor visual layout to the book. Finally, as a test reference, the book skips alternate terminology and topics that do appear on the test. I honestly cannot think of why this expensive book should be recommended for purchase. You can get several better references for the cost of this single poor one. This book needs a complete rewrite.
Good information and clearly presented. My only negative comment (and it's significant) is that the authors don't seem to make any effort to make the information interesting. I guess that's by design as it's a handbook and rather vanilla in it's presentation? But coloring the learnings with some real world examples and applied theory would have made for a better read.
The book comes in perfect condition. The only cons are: 1. it comes with a cd... when most new laptops do not have a cd feed. 2. the book have lots of mistakes which is kind of ironic. Other than that is good.
i got this book to study for the exam. i read it and took notes from it to prepare for the exam. luckily about a month before the exam coworker gave me notes they had kept from when they took the exam. the notes came from an internal continued education site provided by my employer (the six sigma course had since been removed from the site, hence buying the book). i am SOOO grateful for those notes. with out them i would not have passed! the book is not enough if you plan on taking the examthe CD Roms were very helpful, they had LOTS of practice questions
I am kind of disappointed with the book. Not enough examples of how to work a problem by pencil, paper, and calculator. It's more of a reference book. I don't think I could pass the test with ust this book.
