This book was the most important thing in planning and enjoying our 2 and a half weeks in Crete. I had dog-earred pages, sticky-noted pages, and underlined the hell out of this book even before I set foot in the airplane! I took it everywhere...including the port of Pireas while waiting for the ferry to Crete... I accidentaly left the book in a restaurant there...I freaked out when I realized I did not have it when I arrived in Crete.So, I ordered another from Amazon, to be sent to Crete. In the meantime, I traced down the whereabouts of my original, beloved, Lonely Planet Crete, and had that sent to me. So, now I am the proud owner of 2. Although I had one version downloaded to my i-phone, the paperback book is the most useful...you can read it anywhere, you don;t need a charger, and you get a real feel for things by referencing the various maps. That is not as easy on an i-phone.This book had all the info needed to plan an incredible trip. And when we decided to do some "off road" treks, the guide gave us some great recommendations as far as what to expect.We had used Lonely Planet Ecuador in the past with the same great success.
Very helpful book about Crete overall, but did not include some of the off the path places that we encountered. Wish it had a little bit more about some of the small, little villages where we found ourselves, with nothing but a gloss over in the book about the area, and nothing specific.We lent it to another couple staying for a few days after us, and heading for the main attractions, so we knew it would come in handy for their travels.
I like the composition of the book. It suits my needs perfectly. Has useful information, description of places, best categories (beaches, gorges, restaurants, etc) gives samples/suggestions of itineraries amount of time it will take to visit certain places and many other very helpfull info.
Used this alot with my October 2012 trip to Crete.We were there for 2 1/2 wks and we only missed oneday outside due to a down pour.The tips let us see lots and some Greeks we met saidthat we had seem more than them and they lived there onCrete there whole life!

Really only used this to find places to eat. My smartphone was more useful.
Found it difficult to use when looking for a particular place. Iteneraries are recomendaciones are good.
Full of great information. The maps could be better arranged and at least include all the places the text refers to!
