This is a solid series with wonderful, well developed characters. Although I have not been able to read Seeking Catherine yet, I have every intention to because the other 2 stories are so good that I want to complete the series.Here are my reviews of the Seeking Fortune and Seeking Patience:Seeking Fortune:Valentina is a beautiful gypsy who is known for her ability to read palms. But, presently, she must consider the health and wellbeing of her sister, Yolanda. Fearing that Yolanda is getting sicker, the sisters head to an estate where they believe a physician is nearby.James Colchester is a wealthy, landed gentry and a brave soldier. He's also a grieving father and widower. In an act of Christian charity, he welcomes the gypsy sisters into his home. But, his faith is weak at the moment and he asks Valentina to read his palm. Even though he's allowed them to stay in his home, her Rom heritage prevents her from trusting him or his English ways. Therefore, in an act of spite and fear, she withholds possibly critical information from him. But, can the Rom spirits be trusted anyway, or are God's ways higher?As a romance, what begins with infatuation and intrigue develops over time into love. Yet, that love will be tested by class distinction and pride among other things.What follows is a story of extreme emotions. You will want your tissues nearby because the emotions will get intense. But, when you finish, there will be a sense of peace that all has been made right.Themes covered include - prejudice, deceit, forgiveness, love, true Christian character, and prayer. I loved how Valentina gradually learned and accepted the ways of God through reading the Bible.If I were to add anything, I'd love for there to be an epilogue that connects this book with Seeking Patience. But, maybe the author can write a short novella that fills in the middle?Romance - PG - kissingLanguage - nothing offensiveMy rating - 5 stars.Seeking Patience:This is a story with a lot of layers. From the very first chapter, I was drawn into the story. It's a story of opposites, yet similarities. Of people who have been hurt and seeking something to heal that hurt. Of people who are full of anger and revenge and those who forgive and love. Of those who protect, yet also need protection. Of one particular person who shifts from anger and revenge to forgiveness and love.Luca Boldor is a man without an identity. Is he a Gypsie or is he English? But, when we first meet him, he's an injured man escaping from those who would kill him. He needs help or he'll die. As we get to know him, the reader also learns that he's emotionally hurting. As his physical injuries heal, the reader also learns how his emotional injuries heal. However, will he accept the help and steps to healing or will his pride interfere?Lady Patience Blakwell is a woman without protection. A widow, she knows that there are those within her household that would betray and harm her. She, too, has been hurt and continues to live in danger. Yet, when an injured man is discovered on her doorstep, will she help him? Or, might she be inviting more trouble into her life? Who can she trust?On the negative, there are scenes and events that occur that are a bit unbelievable, but I forgive this because the rest of the themes and plot development are so strong and good. My advice would be to pay attention to the various themes such as pain, forgiveness, revenge, love, etc. Who does what and what happens to them. It's a beautiful story of justice, love, and forgiveness. If you get too caught up in expecting everything to be completely believable, you'll miss these.Language - G - cleanRomance - PG - some kissesViolence - PG-13 - some fight scenes, blood, attempted violence against the female character.My rating - 5 stars
I really loved this story. It’s a story about redemption and finding one’s true love yet again. Our hero and heroine were friends as children and did everything together. Also riding their horses and racing each other when they lived in England. But unfortunately, our heroine leave home because of her abusive father and she had no mother as she died in childbirth for her only child.They find each other again as her Gypsy caravan she joined 6 years before has stopped to spend time near the grounds of friends and the gentleman’s wife used to be a Gypsy herself.When our hero arrives to visit the same family with his sister, he notices a girl in the caravan that looks like his lost friend whom he loved dearly. They were told when she left that she died. But he really feels this is her.They meet once again and spend time together on the estate again riding and racing and picnicking. They both realize at some point they love each other and have for a very long time. But of course, obstacles stand in the way and he loses her once again.I highly recommend this regency romance and the rest of the series, two more books in a boxed set. It is very wonderfully composed story with wonderful characters that will melt your heart along with at least one rather a snob.This is one to get as is the boxed set. Ms. Riviera really is a romantic at heart and writes Christian inspirational stories and other inspirational stories but most have some scripture in them.
Seeking Fortune is both a beautiful and a heart breaking romance. It is heart breaking the way the Romany were treated. All the characters are richly portrayed. Lots of history is covered but in a fascinating way. Valentina is a feisty gypsy, a fortune teller and healer, who learns to believe in God. James, a landed gentleman and Christian thinks he might have averted the tragedy in his life if he had heeded the future told to his wife. This is a wonderful story of God's unconditional love. I was captivated!Seeking Patience is another Josie Riviera book that kept me up way too late! A fascinating story of love, romance, rejection and forgiveness. The gypsy and the countess were both wounded souls who could save each other. This story reflects a great deal of research on the author's part. Ms. Riviera has written a fascinating story. I was amazed at how well she resolved all points in the story. I highly recommend this book.I am not certain how I missed the first book but have not year read Seeking Catherine. I feel certain it is as well written and exciting as the other two books in this set.
Seeking Charity by Josie RivieraStarts out with us learning about Charity and her life in the gypsy troop. The customs are so interesting to learn about.She's run away from her father because of what he does to her and she's happy to have to steal to get food, if it comes to that. It's just a fact of life, or they'd die.Even after changing her name she rmembers a boy from her younger days and he finds her again. She thinks it's to bring her back to her father but he's told her other news.You wonder if they can ever get together or just be friends the rest of their lives. Liked this book a lot but the time frame caught me off guard. Loved hearing of the colors of clothing.Recipe for Welsh Cawl Stew, note from the author, excerpt from seeking fortune, in the series, acknowledgements, about the author, other works by the author are all highlighted at the end.I received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
