I like nicely illustrated bear books, so was anxious to get a copy of this one based on its nicely detailed cover. It's a fairly straightforward retelling of the tale of the porridge, chairs, and beds. I did not even notice the lack of "Papa" and "Mama" language until someone else pointed it out, probably because I've heard the tale told as "Papa" and "Mama" interchangeably with "Big bear" and "Middle-sized bear" my whole life. In any event it's pretty clear from the illustrtions that this is a bear family and the two bigger bears look after the little one - make of that what you will. The illustrations have enough detail to make them interesting to look at, although I was hoping for a little more especially in the backgrounds. I enjoyed that the small bear plays with a teddy (how appropriate). Goldilocks looks very traditional with hair ribbon, gold locks and a fancy dress. It's interesting how the bears, who are benign-looking through most of the book, take on a scary and angry appearance when they find their house has been intruded upon, so it's quite easy to see why Goldilocks is scared.

Old Ed time story, I never knew it was in rhyme. But it was a quick story I enjoyed at the time.

Kindle offers a large number of books for free that children can read or that parents or friends can read to them. Some of these books, such as The Three Bears by anonymous, are different than the usual versions in minor or major ways. This is may be good because the child is able to realize that there are different versions to stories. However, usually, children insist that stories be told exactly the same way repeatedly; and it is only as they get older that they can deal with different versions. Thus parents need to keep the child's inclinations in mind when the read a version such as this one by anonymous to them. The story is very short. It is written in rhyme and is clever and funny. Anonymous reveals the names of the bears and Goldilocks is renamed Goldenhair. All of the characters are described in full. Goldenhair goes to the bears house because she felt "to rob bears is no sin." This statement may bother some children. Or, perhaps, they will come to realize that Goldenhair did wrong.

One of the best versions of the Three Bears that I know of. The pictures match the words, and there is a lot of repetition, without being too wordy.

The book was secured for my five-year-old daughter. The poetry sparkles and flows beautifully and reads like a song. Just the right length for bed-time. The loveliest version of the Three Bears I have ever encountered. The little girl is portrayed as being naughty or mischievous to the point that she even riles the temper of timid baby bear; and there seems no lesson learned in the end for her escape of the great danger. There is no rescuer, no one to thank but herself, and she basically thumbs her nose as she runs off. We smiled as we ended the story and left it there, but I suppose if a lesson is required to be learned from every bed time story, one might say to the young listener, "Well, she'll probably try that again. Wonder if next time she'll be so fortunate." However, even a pointless story can be merely entertaining (which is perfectly acceptable) if it is well written, and this one is.

Three stars for hacked up sentences. Symbols were in place of some letters and spaces. The storyline is the same as the one I remember growing up. For a free edition, you get what paid for.

Received product as advertised and in a timely manner

This book passed the toughest test our household has to offer---my two sons asked for it to be read several times in one day. The pictures are vivid and clear and the story is told without fancy added details---just the facts of the fairy tale! I must admit I didn't find it that overly gripping, but I think that's because this isn't the most fascinating of fairy tales---but something about it appeals to kids---the bears? The 3 sizes of everything? Who knows? Whatever it is, it's a hit with my boys!
